A look around campus during the first week of classes

As the first week of a brand new academic year comes to a close, we are looking forward to the year ahead. Our students, who are the heart of everything at Texas A&M-San Antonio, hit the ground running with a full week of classes, organization trainings and welcome back activities (take a look at photos of the first week)!

The College of Education & Kinesiology hosted a luncheon for their Fall Opening Meeting, and State Senator Leticia Van De Putte gave the keynote address. Over 45 student organizations are busy planning exciting events for the year, from poetry readings to chili cook-off competitions. Our Office of Military Community Relations is setting a new trend with "Boots on the Ground," inviting members of the military community to wear their combat boots, and anyone who supports our military to wear red on Fridays.

New on campus is Absolutely Everything Catering, recently contracted to be our food service provider at Main Campus - we are delighted to have them on board! Our University Bookstore too, has many new items to help everyone show their Jaguar Spirit.

With each student, our Jaguar family grows into a strong community that is setting the foundation for students to become exceptional leaders that will make positive, long-lasting changes locally, nationally and globally. Every time I walk the halls of our Main Campus building or see students at our Brooks City-Base Campus, I am reminded of my own journey, which is very much like that of so many of our students, many of whom balance an academic career with work and family life.

I am proud of their energy, loyalty and love for our University, represented by our core values - Commitment, Integrity, Excellence and Service. I am confident that the coming academic year will exemplify those values in all that we do.

Together in service for our University community,
Dr. Maria Hernandez Ferrier
President, Texas A&M University-San Antonio
