A&M-SA College of Education & Kinesiology partners with Head Start
Texas A&M University-San Antonio is helping local teachers take the next step in their career through San Antonio's elite Head Start program, a specially designed program to prepare young children for kindergarten. Head Start educators must meet federal guidelines to teach in the program, which includes completing eighteen graduate hours, a requirement that eight San Antonio and Edgewood ISD teachers have just begun at A&M-San Antonio. Out of the Classroom and Into the Field
The history program offers several opportunities for internships at archives and commemoration sites within San Antonio. Students can develop their skills in research, commemoration, and preservation including internship opportunities at the City Archives, the Texana Department of the San Antonio Public Library, and the Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio. In addition, student organizations including the History Club and Phi Alpha Theta offer additional opportunities for professional service and tours of local historical sites of interest.

Education professor serves as editor of special journal edition
The Board of Directors of the Texas Association of the Education of Young Children published an extra Spring issue of their journal, Early Years this year to highlight the importance of play in early childhood education. Dr. Vivien Geneser, who has served as a co-editor of the journal since 2012, was chosen to serve as the lead editor of this special issue on PLAY. Dr. Geneser selected a variety of articles that addressed relevant topics in play research such as rough and tumble play, interpreting play behaviors, socio-dramatic play, and the future of play. In the editor's column, Dr. Geneser expresses her hope that the reader "will benefit from the contents of this issue that illuminate how the magic of play enhances healthy development for people of all ages." The print-only journal can be viewed at the University Library at Main Campus.
