Texas A&M University-San Antonio redesignated as elite cybersecurity campus

On October 30, Congressman Will Hurd participated in a ceremony on campus announcing the University's redesignation as a National Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency (NSA). The prestigious five-year designation puts A&M-SA among a select group of institutions nationwide meeting rigorous federal standards. 

Hurd, a computer science major from Texas A&M University who served as an intelligence officer in the CIA, discussed the importance of the NSA designation as A&M-SA continues to train "cyber warriors" to help protect businesses as well as national security interests.

Dr. Akhtar Lodgher, chair of the Department of Computing and Cyber Security and director of the Center for Information Technology and Cyber Security, noted that the announcement will bring more awareness to the University's burgeoning cyber security program and encourage more students to take cyber security courses.
