Student Affairs Employee Spotlight

Apefa Cooper, Director of Esperanza Hall, recently won the General Manager of the Year Award with American Campus Communities. American Campus Communities is the nation’s largest developer, owner, and manager of high-quality student housing communities. This award highlights Apefa’s role as General Manager of Esperanza Hall and her commitment to its 365 student residents.

Cooper said, “I am honored to be the recipient of the General Manager of the Year (2023) award from American Campus Communities (ACC). I am very grateful for the continued partnership with Texas A&M University-San Antonio. I owe this recognition to my amazing team and the incredible leaders I get to work with at TAMUSA and within ACC. I am encouraged to continue to keep moving forward, be challenged, lead well, and empower others who might be recipients of this award in the future.”

Dr. Sims, Director of Housing, said, “I am extremely proud of Apefa and her accomplishments within ACC. She truly deserves the General Manager of the Year Award. She spends countless hours nurturing ACC’s relationship with the university, caring for our students, and ensuring that the facilities are in order to provide an effective living and learning environment for our students. She is very adept at developing relationships with other areas of the university outside of Student Affairs, such as housing in a place where students from all areas intersect. Her ideas are valuable to the functionality of housing at A&M-San Antonio and help us plot a trajectory forward as we grow. I am happy to have her on our team and am excited to see what the future holds for us with her alongside for the ride.”
