Graduate Admissions Process

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1. Send all official transcripts to GradCAS(undergraduate and graduate course work) from every prior college/university attended.

2. Applicants must be awarded a baccalaureate degree from a regionally-accredited institution before admission into a graduate program can occur. Degrees received must be posted on the transcript of the awarding institution.

Students may be processed with a letter of degree completion from their degree-awarding institution. Not all students are eligible for this process. Please see the attached handout for more information on being processed with a Letter of Degree Completion.

3. Applicants must have an overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.6 on a 4.0 scale, or have an average of 3.0 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework.

4. Students admitted must also submit official Graduate Test Scores (GMAT, GRE, MAT) by the mid-semester of their first application term of graduate courses to register for subsequent semesters.

  • To determine the test and score required for each program, refer to the University Catalog. Scores are valid for five years.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS (International Students)

1. Complete an International Admissions Application 

  • Money Order of non-refundable Application fee of $69.00 is required.

2. Provide U.S. Official Transcripts

  • Submit the   original transcripts   from all of the universities that you had attended in the U.S.
  • If your transcripts are not from a U.S. school, your transcripts must be evaluated by a   Credential Evaluation Service.
  • Do NOT submit a foreign transcript; we ONLY need the foreign credential evaluation.

3. English Proficiency Requirements

Exams codes for A&M-San Antonio are as follows :

  • TOEFL 6712, GRE 6712, GMAT 7B7-9D-05, MAT 3031.

  • Note: Students may require additional documents or test scores that need to be submitted for admission purposes. Therefore, check with the Office of International Affairs.

ABOUT ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS (International Students)

Proof of English proficiency is required for the admission of all international students. We accept multiple English proficiency exams to meet the requirements, or you might be exempt based on several scenarios. You may review your options below. Please send all test scores directly from the testing portal, soft copies sent via email or through the upload portal will not be used to complete the admission file. Test scores should not be older than 2 years or they will be considered expired.

  1. GRE (for Graduates)
    • A Verbal Score of 400 (Score on the Prior GRE Scale) or 146 (Score on the Current GRE Scale) is required SUBJECT TO DEPARTMENTAL APPROVAL.
  2. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Exam code 6712
    • A score of 79 (internet-based) or 550 (paper-based) is the university minimum requirement for all graduate students.
    • A score of 61 (internet-based) or 500 (paper-based) is the university minimum requirement for all undergraduate students.
    • This score must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Services (ETS) and dated within two (2) years of Residual (Institutional) TOEFL exams taken at another institution will not be accepted.
  3. Duolingo English Test (DET)
    • Applicants may submit the Duolingo English Test (DET), which combines an English proficiency test with a brief video Duolingo’s technology and format allow applicants to complete the test at any time or place with internet access.
    • Graduate Students must submit a Duolingo score of at least 100

  5. International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
    • The minimum score required for Graduate Students is a 0 overall band score.
    • The minimum score required for Undergraduate Students is a 0 overall band score.
  • Texas A&M University-San Antonio only accepts scores submitted directly by the IELTS test No self-reported Test Report Forms will be accepted. An institutional code is NOT required for IELTS. Please contact the test center directly where you took the test and request that your test scores be sent to the following:

All international students are required to take one of the above English proficiency tests unless they qualify for a waiver.

The following are also considered for the English Proficiency Admission Requirement:

  1. Students who have completed their entire formal education at the secondary or postsecondary level in the following countries are exempt from the TOEFL requirement: American Samoa, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada (except Quebec), Cayman Islands, Dominica, Federated States of Micronesia, Gambia, Ghana, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guam, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Liberia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Siant Kitts and Nevis, Santa Lucia, Trinidad-Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, and United Kingdom (all). Please note: Applicants from Puerto Rico, where Spanish is the primary language, are required to submit a TOEFL or equivalent.
  2. Based on the review and decision of the College of Graduate Studies, students who have earned at least 12 credits, with a grade C or better, in university-level courses from a U.S. institution or an institution in one of the countries listed above, may be exempt from TOEFL.
  3. Completion of the advanced-level Texas Intensive English Program (TIEP) offered by the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC).”

GRADUATE EXPEDITED ADMISSIONS

NON DEGREE | CERTIFICATE SEEKING STUDENTS

Non-Degree or Certificate Seeking Students

  • Are considered transient and are admitted for one semester. If continued enrollment is desired, students must contact their program advisor. 
  • Are not eligible for financial assistance.

Steps for applying as a Non-Degree Seeking

  1. Apply on GradCas with the "Non-Degree Seeking or Certification Seeking Graduate" application.
  2. Within the application you will be asked to choose which college you intend to take courses within. The question will be something similar to the example below.

The application will not be accepted after deadline dates. Supporting documents to complete admission files can be submitted through GradCAS.  Applications that are not completed by the deadline will not be processed for an admission decision for that application term and will be withdrawn by the university. GRADUATE READMISSIONS

Readmission applications can be submitted at GradCAS.

  • Students must apply for readmission after an absence of one year.

  • Returning students who have attended other institutions since they were last enrolled must submit current official transcripts from each institution attended.

  • Students who were previously conditionally accepted pending their test scores will need to submit their test scores prior to evaluation.
