Message from Vice Provost for Research and Health Sciences

A&M-SA has been very effective in providing students with hands-on experiences in various research endeavors. A&M-SA Faculty utilize internal funding and external grants and contracts in providing undergraduate and graduate students with research opportunities to shape their learning and academic experiences. Examples include National Cyber-Security research, protection of Texas aquifers and water sources, monitoring wildlife populations to assisting public Health departments in protecting the public from Mosquito-borne illnesses, etc. Other sponsored projects are changing the way public school students learn in their classrooms and creating pathways for students in the surrounding communities to successfully pursue a university education. Faculty have garnered grant funding to purchase equipment for student use, and to provide support and mentoring to students seeking advanced and professional education after graduation from A&M-SA. Awards to faculty increased by 106% between Academic Year 22 and 23 and are expected to more than double in the next five years as Faculty interest in pursuing sponsored research and grant activities increases.

The Office of Research and Health Sciences leads the effort to create robust research opportunities and create health science programs and cutting-edge research, ensuring quality and excellence in higher education to advance scientific knowledge and shape students for greater success in tomorrow’s workforce.
