Counseling Services Overview

All enrolled Texas A&M University-San Antonio students are eligible to receive an initial appointment to assess their needs. The initial appointment is used to make treatment recommendations based on individual symptoms, severity, appropriateness of services, and availability of resources. After the initial appointment, the mental health clinician will render a clinical recommendation based on services that are best suited to meet individual needs and determine if tele-counseling services are appropriate at this time.

To schedule an appointment, please call 210-784-1331 or walk into the Student Counseling Center in Madla 120 from Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

During an initial appointment, students will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire. They will then speak with a mental health professional to discuss any concerns or challenges they are experiencing and create a mutually agreed-upon treatment plan to help them reach their goals.

The treatment plan could include services provided by the Student Counseling Center, including:

- Individual therapy

- Group therapy

- Utilization of the Quiet Room

- Referral to a community provider with the assistance of the SCC Clinical Case Manager

The Student Counseling Center (SCC) offers brief individual therapy to students seeking support for relatively well-defined concerns that can adequately be addressed or resolved quickly. Quick individual therapy sessions are not guaranteed to students. An assignment to brief individual therapy is made through clinical judgment of students’ needs during the initial appointment.
