Advancing to the global stage
Dr. Maria Hernandez Ferrier, inaugural president of Texas A&M University-San Antonio, announced on Friday, September 5, that she is taking on an exciting new role as the Director of Development and Mexico Relations at The Texas A&M University System. In this position, she will create, build, and oversee relations with Mexico for all 11 universities of the A&M System and the 7 System Agencies. Dr. Ferrier, who has served as president of A&M-SA since February 2010, will remain president until December 31, 2014. COSA brings music and culture to A&M-SA
The Chamber Orchestra of San Antonio performed an inaugural concert in Texas A&M University-San Antonio's new auditorium on Friday, September 5. The orchestra performed Joaquin Turina's La Oracion del Torero (The Prayer of the Bullfighter) and the entirety of Rodion Shchedrin's Carmen-Suite. For those who missed out on the opportunity to reserve tickets, COSA performed at the Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater on the following evening, Saturday, September 6. Over 250 faculty, staff, students, and friends of the University were blown away by a breathtaking performance.
A&M-SA professor making international impact
Dr. Sukho Lee, associate professor of kinesiology, was invited as a guest speaker for the 2014 Incheon Asian Games International Sport Science Congress, hosted in Korea from August 20-22. The International Sport Science Congress is the largest sport related conference in Korea and welcomed more than 3,000 people from 20 different countries. This year's conference was in commemoration of the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, with a theme of "Mutual Understanding, Trust, and Respect Among Asians: Can Sport Be the Answer?" Dr. Lee was invited with all expenses paid by the Korea Society of Exercise Physiology (KSEP), one of the 16 professional sports societies that organized the conference.
