New Faculty Academy

New Faculty Academy

New Faculty Academy at A&M-SA is a comprehensive onboarding and professional development program designed to help newly hired university faculty members transition successfully into their academic roles. The program typically spans the first year of employment and combines workshops, reading groups, mentoring relationships, and peer networking opportunities to address crucial aspects of faculty life. Participants learn about the A&M-SA community, research development, grant writing, work-life balance, and institutional policies and procedures. The academy includes regular meetings where new faculty can share experiences, challenges, and solutions with colleagues across different disciplines. Sessions are led by experienced faculty members and administrators who provide insights into navigating tenure requirements, establishing productive research agendas, and developing engaging teaching practices. The A&M-SA New Faculty Academy structured support system helps our new faculty members build confidence, establish professional networks, and understand the expectations and culture of their institution while developing the skills necessary for long-term academic success here at Texas A&M University-San Antonio
