Budget Office

Mission Statement

The mission of The Budget Office is to facilitate efficient and effective resource allocation, decision making and strategic planning for the University community and constituents.

The Office of Budget & Planning is responsible for:

  • the coordination of the annual operating budget
  • the biennial preparation of the Legislative Appropriation Request
  • the submission of mandated federal, state and university system reports
  • the development and oversight of the capital plan
  • budget training & assistance for the university community
  • other reporting & planning duties as requested.

Types of Account Meanings

Education & General (E&G) - State (begins with 1)

  • State Appropriated Funds
  • Account Range (100000-199999)
  • Must show direct benefit to the University & follow strict state guideline and laws
  • Longevity (1610) & Benefits (1900s)_ are not pd in accts
  • Special Allocations:

Other E&G accounts lose any budget available @ YE

E&G - Local Accounts (begins with 2) [Wages & Operating only]

  • Account Range (220000-248999)
  • Indirect Cost (225000-225999)-Bal brought fwd
  • All have Wage (1700) and Operating Budgets (4000) only. No budgeted salaries. They will all remain in the "1" account number
  • Must show direct benefit to the University & follow strict state guidelines and laws E&G-State acct

Designated/Auxiliary (Local) (Designated begins with 2) (Auxiliary begins with 3)

  • Accounts Range (200000-399999)
  • Guideline of the University and Texas A&M System apply to all purchases with local funds
  • Budgeted Accts:

201700-201799 (Graduation Application Fee)

206000-206099 (International Education Fee)

209000-209999 (University Services Fee)

212000-212999 (Student Services Fee)

215000-215099 (UG Application Fee)

215100-215199 (GR Application Fee)

315000-315999 (Athletic Fees)

318000-318999 (Recreational Sports Fee)

350000-350099 (Student Housing)

  • Account Range for Grants & Contracts - 400000-499999
  • Account Range for Gifts - 500000-599999
  • Account Range for Scholarships - 650000-659999

Plant Funds/Construction Accts (begins with 8)

  • Accounts range (800000-899999)
  • Purpose: to capture total costs of large projects usually under a contract (ex: renovations, new construction)

  • Primarily Student Organization Accts
