COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents today confirmed Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson as the second president of Texas A&M University-San Antonio at the regularly scheduled board meeting.
“Dr. Matson is a proven leader who brings experience and a passion for excellence to Texas A&M-San Antonio,” said A&M System Chancellor John Sharp. “With her at the helm, we envision many years of stellar progress ahead.”
In her first 30 days at the University, Matson has been engaged in focused outreach, listening to local business leaders, elected officials, Foundation Board members and University faculty, staff and students through community meetings and campus town hall forums. She brings an exciting and renewed focus on student success and has already created a digital open door by inviting students to connect using social media as well as in-person conversations. She arrives with positive energy to lead A&M-San Antonio to another generation of achievement. Matson has already begun discussions to expand course offerings and academic expansion into new programs and applied research.

Matson previously served as Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer at California State University, Fresno and Vice Chancellor for Administration at the University of Alaska Anchorage. She has over 20 years experience in higher education with a track record of accomplishments that support campus growth including: faculty and student success, economic development, financial stewardship and broad-based entrepreneurial leadership. She also has extensive public service leadership in numerous national higher education associations and boards. She was named sole finalist and Interim President in Dec. 2014 by the A&M System Board of Regents.
