Apply A&M-SA donates 22,497 pounds of food
The Texas A&M-San Antonio Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) & San Antonio Food Bank "Fill the Cart" Food Campaign brought in a total of 22,497 pounds of food, enough for nearly 18,000 individual meals, in a six-week long food drive held on Main Campus and Brooks City-Base. This year's collection was over four times as much food as last year!
Dr. Cynthia Teninete-Matson, president of A&M-SA, joins Eric Cooper, president and CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank, along with faculty, staff and students at the presentation event.
A&M-SA student organizations, including the American Marketing Association, Business Organization for Student Success, Toastmasters International, Student Government Organization, Student Veterans Association, National Society of Leadership and Success, Kappa Delta Pi and the Psychology Club assisted the project.
The San Antonio community also pitched in, with collection sites at The Landing Apartments, Brooks City-Base Health & Wellness Center and Chico's Bakery and supply donations from HEB on 3323 SE Military Dr., Sam's Club on 3150 SW Military Dr. and Lone Star Relocation Services. The San Antonio Human Resource Management Association also participated and helped with publicity and advertising. Our neighbors, at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas, provided a Toyota Tundra for the "Fill the Truck" campaign at this year's Festival de Cascarones.
In the three years of organizing this food campaign, A&M-San Antonio has collected a total of 33,009 pounds of food to donate to the San Antonio Food Bank!
The "Fill the Truck" food drive, with a Tundra provided by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas, brought in an additional 1,783 pounds of food during Festival de Cascarones!
A&M-SA president serves as Harlandale Parade Grand Marshall
In this year's Harlandale Parade, part of the 39th Annual Cultural Arts Festival, Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson was honored as the Grand Marshall, leading more than 120 entries, including about 30 floats, down Roosevelt Avenue from Huizar Road to the Harlandale Memorial Stadium. The parade was followed by the festival, where students from across the district provided entertainment and music, resulting in a truly memorable community event.
University Library celebrates Money Smart Week
During the week of April 18-25, 2015, the University Library celebrated Money Smart Week®, a public awareness campaign created by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago that focuses on helping consumers manage their personal finances. This year, the University Library hosted three events: two seminars titled "What are you Worth? Tips for Salary Negotiate," presented by Annette Wilson and Clarissa Tejeda, and a live panel discussion on "Encore Entrepreneurs: How to Turn Your Business Plan into a Reality," moderated by Dr. Leonard Love, professor of management, and featuring current students and alumni who have started their own businesses.
To further celebrate Money Smart Week, the library displayed financial literacy books and other resources on subjects such as managing personal finances, paying for college and identity theft prevention. The library also created an online research guide that gathers all of these resources together for students to access at any time.

A&M-SA senior Katrina Reyna was named a 2014-2015 MillerCoors Scholar with the Adelante U.S. Education Leadership Fund, and received a scholarship for the upcoming 2015-2016 academic year. She was also awarded SAHRMA's 2015 Art Edgarian/Charles Umshied scholarship, which was matched by the Texas A&M-San Antonio Society for Human Resources Management. Congratulations Katrina!

Exhibitions at the ECAC
Arte y Tradicion de La Frontera: The U.S.-Mexico Borderlands in the Works of Santa Barraza and Carmen Lomas Garza is running from January 30 through May 24 and the Texas Size Breach exhibition is open from March 12 through June 14.
The Educational & Cultural Arts Center is open from Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is closed on Monday. For more information about current and upcoming exhibitions, visit the ECAC website.
