Vice President Transition
Dear Members of the University Community:
Shortly after Spring Commencement, Mr. Darrell Morrison and I mutually agreed that he would step down from his role as vice president (VP) for Business Affairs and chief financial officer (CFO) effective June 30, 2016. In his short tenure, Darrell has provided leadership in an array of important campus initiatives including oversight of the comprehensive expansion fiscal planning and implementation, an update of the campus wide strategic plan and space programming, fiscal and facilities planning for new campus housing, comprehensive salary analysis and a reorganization within Business Affairs to enhance services to the campus community. As Darrell transitions he will be assisting on a part-time basis with the space and facilities initiatives to complete the transition to the temporary modular facilities until July 22, 2016. Please join me in thanking him for his service!
Effective July 5, 2016, Dr. Arturo Alonzo will assume the role of interim VP for Business Affairs and CFO while a national search is conducted. Dr. Arturo Alonzo, Jr. served as the deputy commissioner and chief operating officer (COO) of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board from 2007 - 2014. As COO for the Coordinating Board, Dr. Alonzo was responsible for a $6 billion biennial budget. He also has 28 years of service in various capacities within the Texas A&M-System including deputy director and CFO for the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). Dr. Alonzo has extensive experience in financial accounting, payroll functions, treasury functions, property management, budgeting, contract administration and human resource development. In addition to his financial skills, Dr. Alonzo is experienced in strategic planning and visionary leadership.
Dr. Alonzo received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Texas A&M University, an MBA from UTSA and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University. Dr. Alonzo has served as an adjunct faculty member at St. Phillip's College, Our Lady of the Lake University, St. Edward's University and Blinn College. In January 2005, Dr. Alonzo was designated as a Regents Fellow by the Board of Regents of the Texas A&M University System. This designation, the highest honor bestowed by the Regents, is in recognition of lifetime achievement and service to the State of Texas.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Arturo Alonzo to the campus community!
Warm Regards,
Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson
President
