Construction Beginning for University's First Resident Hall

Message from the President

Construction Beginning for University's First Residence Hall

Dear Members of the University Community:

Today, construction began for Texas A&M University-San Antonio's first student residence hall!

In April 2016, the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents granted us the authority to negotiate and execute a ground lease for the residence hall. The financing contracts were signed yesterday and today, pre-construction is underway.

The residence hall is slated to open in August 2017, in time for the fall 2017 first-year students. The modern four story building will provide 103 units with 382 beds of student housing.

During construction, there will be minimal interruptions to the University community. One change is that the first two rows of the Faculty/Staff parking lot, located next to the Patriots' Casa, are temporarily closed. The disabled parking spaces in those closed rows will be relocated within the Faculty/Staff parking lot to continue providing accessible parking and remain in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

A dedication groundbreaking ceremony will take place during the fall 2016 semester with more details to follow.

I want to thank Chancellor John Sharp and the Texas A&M System for their continued support, American Campus Communities for their partnership in the project and the University's leadership team for their involvement and oversight. The new residence hall will provide tremendous opportunities for our future generations of students. It is a great day to be a Jaguar!

In partnership for an audacious future,

President Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson
