Dr. Bill Spindle announced as vice president for Business Affairs and Chief Financial Officer


Texas A&M University-San Antonio is pleased to announce Bill Spindle, Ed.D., as vice president for Business Affairs and chief financial officer (CFO). Dr. Spindle, who served as the vice chancellor for Administrative Services and CFO for the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) for the last nine years, will begin his new role at A&M-San Antonio on October 24, 2016.

Dr. Spindle has 19 years of experience in executive positions in higher education at UAA. During his tenure as CFO, Spindle led a staff of more than 300 and managed an annual budget of $313M. He also oversaw the design and construction of 19 new buildings at UAA, including an Integrated Science Building, Health Science Building and an Engineering and Industry Building.  

He also worked as UAA's director of Business Services and as the chief procurement officer for the University of Alaska System. Additionally, Dr. Spindle taught as an adjunct professor at UAA, teaching business and leadership courses.

Prior to his higher education experience, Dr. Spindle was a career officer in the United States Air Force and led contracting and logistics units. He finished his military career as a full Colonel and as the director of contracting for the Pacific Air Forces Command.

His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering management from the U.S. Air Force Academy, a Master of Business Administration from Boston University and an Ed.D. from the University of La Verne.

I am delighted that we were able to recruit the high-caliber talent and leadership experience that Dr. Spindle will bring to A&M-San Antonio. He has an abundance of experience and leadership that will further enhance the growing needs of our University.
