Welcome Back to Spring 2018 Semester
January 22, 2018
Dear Members of the A&M-San Antonio Community:
I hope you all have returned from winter break refreshed and ready for an exhilarating spring semester. We have already hit the ground running this year with a number of exciting activities.
Last week, we kicked off the first of A&M-SA's Tricentennial activities in 2018 with the opening of a new exhibit at Presidio Gallery downtown. "San Antonio as a Crossroads: 300 Years of an Evolving Frontier Community" explores the city's vibrant history as an intersection for nations, rivers, roads and people through photographs, artwork, maps, documents and artifacts. I hope you have a chance to visit the exhibit and participate in other Tricentennial events throughout the year.
I enjoyed seeing so many Jaguars at the three-mile march from MLK Academy to Pittman-Sullivan Park last week to support the legacy of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I know many of you also participated in other DreamWeek activities as part of our city's Tricentennial celebration.
As we build on the work done at Spring Convocation, the entire campus and the President's Commission on Equity (PCOE) will continue to foster diversity, equity and inclusion across our University community. Support for all students is one of the issues the PCOE will remain focused on this year. I look forward to receiving the PCOE recommendations to enhance our awareness and knowledge. As an institution that values education and opportunity for all, we are committed to taking care of each other. During this time of uncertainty in our federal immigration policies, I remind you of the resources and support services for students, faculty and staff.
Support for Students
For counseling services, students can contact the Office of Student Counseling and Wellness at StuCounseling@tamusa.edu or 210-784-1331. Students can also contact the Office of International Affairs at internationalaffairs@tamusa.edu or 210-784-1308. The contact list for student support services is another valuable resource for students. Additional external resources can be accessed on the web.
Support for Faculty and Staff
For counseling services, faculty and staff can contact Deer Oaks, our Employee Assistance Program, at eap@deeroaks.com or 866-EAP-2400.
Thank you for your steadfast commitment to the success of all of our students. I look forward to witnessing the strides we take this spring in our ongoing efforts to build a national model for student and academic success.
Sincerely,
Cynthia Teniente-Matson
President
