Dr. Teniente-Matson helps girl entrepreneurs achieve their goals, support local businesses through Flavor Fest

(San Antonio) – Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, president of Texas A&M University-San Antonio, was recently elected to the National Board of Girl Scouts of the USA. An advocate for developing leadership and entrepreneurial skills for girls and young women, Teniente-Matson has been a supporter for Girl Scouts even before her election, creating opportunities for the local Girl Scout organization, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas (GSSWT), and its partner patch program at A&M-San Antonio, which champions patriotism, entrepreneurism, and social learning. And this year, Teniente-Matson will also kick off a new San Antonio Girl Scout tradition, the 2021 Girl Scout Cookie Flavor Fest. Flavor Fest, which runs from Feb.12-21, 2021, partners with local restaurants to create unique, Girl Scout Cookie-inspired bites, drinks, or pairings, for foodie fans to enjoy.

"The opportunities presented to girls today have never been greater, yet the challenges they face have also never been more difficult to overcome, especially as they and their families are impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. This is why the Girl Scouts and their mission remain so vitally important in today's world and our local community,” said Teniente-Matson. “We continue to deeply appreciate Dr. Teniente-Matson and the university for their support of the Girl Scouts and GSSWT,” said Maj Gen Angie Salinas, USMC (Ret) and GSSWT Chief Executive Officer. “Their efforts are inspiring the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.”

About the 2021 Girl Scout Cookie Program
All purchases of Thin Mints®, Samoas®, and other Girl Scout Cookie favorites are an investment in developing girl leadership in our local community. With every sale, the Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches girls how to not only think like entrepreneurs, they run their own small businesses and learn the critical skills of goal setting, people skills, and decision making—which are imperative for any leadership role. Additionally, girls decide how to use their portion of the proceeds for unforgettable leadership experiences and community projects, learning the value of giving back.
