Businesses and A&M-San Antonio Foundation raise record funds for scholarships

San Antonio The Texas A&M University-San Antonio Foundation and area businesses joined together to raise nearly $66,000 for scholarships for A&M-San Antonio students. A record 31 teams were joined by members of the University community and intercollegiate athletics program at the Silverhorn Country Club.

"We are grateful and humbled to have received this level of support coming out of the pandemic," said Derek Neiser, managing principal at LNV, LLC, who spearheaded the A&M-San Antonio Foundation scholarship golf tournament planning committee. "The record number of participants and their generosity speak to a commitment to access to help our students, the majority of whom are the first in their families to earn a university degree."

Since its founding in 2008 the Texas A&M University-San Antonio Foundation in partnership with the University has raised more than $12.9 million in philanthropic support and awarded scholarships to more than 5,500 students. “We are deeply grateful to our sponsors, volunteers and businesses who made this scholarship event possible,” said Alexander Travieso, chair of the A&M-San Antonio Foundation.

This year also saw a number of firsts for A&M-San Antonio’s new intercollegiate athletics program. This spring A&M-San Antonio began its first season of competition with the launch of its men’s golf and softball teams. This fall, the University will also launch men’s and women’s soccer.

A huge thank you goes out to the sponsors who helped make the Scholarship Golf Tournament an exciting and successful fundraising event. Click here for the full list of sponsors.
