Greg Gonzalez (Student)

Greg Gonzalez (Student)Meet Gregorio “Greg” Gonzalez, your new Mr. A&M-San Antonio.

Before the crown, Greg grew up in Somerset as the only boy in a bustling family of four children.

Greg received more responsibilities than most boys his age. But he found having those responsibilities prepared him for the high demands college requires from its students. Pursuing a higher education is what Greg always planned for and with encouragement from his parents he took that leap.

Greg enrolled at Texas A&M University-San Antonio after high school as part of the inaugural freshman class and within a few weeks on campus, he knew he was going to be a graduate from this newly established four-year university.

“I fell in love with the university. Everything they provided to their students was what made me realize this was the school for me” he says. “The one on one attention from all the staff. I don’t see myself getting that at another university.”

Greg occasionally stops by his former high school in Somerset to share his story to juniors and seniors contemplating going to college. He enjoys being part of that opportunity. He’s able to provide helpful feedback and encourage skeptical students to pursue higher education.

An annual tradition A&M-San Antonio has every year is Fall Fest; an event hosted by Campus Activities Board. The festival commemorates the new fall semester and a special occasion which occurs during the festival is the crowing of the new Mr. & Ms. A&M San Antonio.

Greg and his running partner, C Arce were a few of the new contenders running.

When Greg was named the winner, he was in disbelief. He was ecstatic that he won.

Q: What does it mean for you to be Mr. A&M-San Antonio?

A: “It’s a big honor. It’s an honor to be representing the university after everything I’ve gone through to get here at Texas A&M-San Antonio.”

As newly appointed Mr. A&M San Antonio, Greg plans to be an encouragement to his fellow peers and push the importance of how great A&M-San Antonio truly is. He takes a lot of pride in the university and plans to illustrate how much the university has made a difference in his life. He cherishes the fact that he’ll be able to share his story with friends and strangers alike.

Not only is Greg Mr. A&M-San Antonio, he’s also a part of the fraternity Omega Delta Phi here on campus. Greg also works in First Year Experience as a peer leader for jaguar mentoring. Not only does he appreciate sharing his experiences with others, he also enjoys helping jaguars gain a new perspective in their academic career.

As a business management major with an emphasis in entrepreneurship, Greg plans to start up his own businesses in the near future. With all the services and support A&M San Antonio provides their students he plans to take what he’s learned and give back to his community by reaching out to fellow students and encouraging personal growth. Catch Mr. A&M-San Antonio Greg on campus setting the example for fellow Jaguars on how perseverance garners success.
