Kinesiology Degree Plans

Undergraduate Degree Plans 

EC-12 Physical Education
prepares one to teach physical education and other content, such as math, biology, special education, etc. This program is committed to quality teacher preparation in Health and Physical Education and meets state standards for certification in grades kindergarten through 12th.

Exercise Science
prepares one to work in health- and fitness-related fields, corporate/hospital fitness programs, boys/girls clubs, fitness centers, non-school sports settings, etc, as well as entry into graduate school. The curriculum is aligned with the KSA’s established by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) for the Health and Fitness Specialist (HFS) Certification Exam.

Exercise Science/Pre-Physical Therapy
is for those students wishing to use this degree as a pre- professional degree for entry into allied health programs. It will help prepare them for application to rehabilitation/therapy school (physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractor, etc.). The Exercise Science/Pre-Physical therapy track requires a support field in biology.



Undergraduate Minors in Kinesiology

Students may select from one of the following minors based on their specific interest.

Kinesiology: EC-12 Physical Education (18 credit hours).
The EC-12 Physical Education minor is for students interested in teaching physical education (PE). EC-12 Physical Education is restricted to students seeking teacher certification through their major.

Kinesiology: Coaching Concentration (18 credit hours).
The Coaching concentration minor is for students interested in coaching sports. Any substitutions must be approved by the Kinesiology Coordinator. 

Exercise Science & Pre-Physical Therapy (20-21 hours).
The Exercise Science and Pre-PT minor is for students interested in a non-public school teaching profession, continuing their education in Exercise Science, or applying to a PT program to further their education.

Health  (18 credit hours)
Classes are also offered as a support field or minor for the Exercise Science and Pre-Physical Therapy plans.



Graduate Degree in Kinesiology 

The Master of Science in Kinesiology
Degree allows students to choose from thesis or non-thesis options for degree completion.  Depending on the degree plan selected, students may complete up to 12 hours of coursework in a support area. A total of 36 hours of graduate coursework are required. The program is designed to help students develop conceptual and theoretical thinking skills and to obtain knowledge, skills and abilities that will prepare students for health- and/or kinesiology-related careers.

Applicants seeking admission must have at least a 2.6 cumulative undergraduate GPA or at least a 3.0 in the last 60 hours.

Unconditional admission is assigned to entering students who have earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Kinesiology majors must also meet one of the following sets of minimum requirements:
1. Have an undergraduate cumulative grade point average between 2.60-2.99 or an undergraduate grade point average of 3.00 or higher for the last 60 semester credits (or 90 quarter credits), and a minimum GRE composite (Q+V) score of 297 or a minimum MAT score of 398.
2. Have an undergraduate cumulative grade point average between 3.00-4.00 and a minimum GRE composite (Q+V) score of 285 or a minimum MAT score of 388.

Conditional Admission (Kinesiology Majors Only)
Conditional Admission means that an applicant’s standardized test results have not been received by the Office of Admissions by the time of registration for a given semester. A conditionally admitted student will be allowed to enroll in 3-6 semester hours as prescribed and approved by the Associate Chair of Kinesiology or other designated program representative. The student must
submit standardized test scores during the first semester of enrollment to be admitted to unconditional status. International applicants are not eligible for Conditional Admission at Texas A&M University-San Antonio.
