Faculty Immersion Program

What:

The Faculty Immersion Program is a certification program aimed to provide faculty with the tools to take their instructional skills to the next level! 

Who:

This program is designed to help new faculty (1-3 years teaching experience) enhance their teaching effectiveness and continued growth as transformative, mission-driven educators, which supports the university's strategic goal to continue to build academic excellence. 

How:

In this 6-week program, participants will assess and further develop their instructional skills, specifically: course design, instructional delivery and classroom management, student engagement, assessment strategies, and celebrating success. 

Course Format:

This course is presented in a hybrid format; majority of the course is delivered in an online format, with a weekly self-paced progression, in addition to two mandatory live Zoom sessions. Generally speaking, each cohort should expect to invest at least 24 hours total over the six-week course period.

Course Objectives:

  • Integrate A&M-SA’s mission into teaching practices
  • Align measurable course objectives with activities and instructional content
  • Employ fair and effective assessment strategies that improve learning
  • Use teaching strategies that promote active learning
  • Create learning environments that are supportive, respectful, and productive
  • Encourage metacognition and reflection

Incentives:

Participants will receive:

  • a $500 stipend
  • a certificate of proficiency and completion
  • mentoring support for one year
  • the opportunity to receive additional incentives and recognition for completing more advanced and specialized training offerings beyond the New Faculty Immersion cohort
  • the opportunity to provide program feedback to further develop the program for future cohorts
