On-Campus Employment
F-1 students are allowed to work on-campus at Texas A&M San Antonio (TAMU-SA) during their academic program start and end dates. First check in with the Office of International Affairs (OIA) upon your arrival to the USA. Prior to starting your employment, email a copy of your on-campus employment offer letter to International.Affairs@tamusa.edu so we can determine if the position qualifies as on-campus. Then the OIA will issue you a letter in support of your Social Security Number (SSN) application certifying you are an F-1 student eligible for on-campus employment.
Note: Off-campus employment is only allowed for F-1 students if you receive prior approval from OIA for work in your academic discipline for
- CPT: internship/practicum courses during college or
- OPT: typically occurs after completion of the academic program
While on-campus employment is not listed on your I-20, CPT and OPT work authorization must be on your I-20 or you are considered in violation of your F-1 visa status. For more information on CPT and OPT, click here.

For more information on taxes, click here.
