Q: Can I park in visitor parking if I’m a student, faculty, or staff member?
A: No. Visitor parking is for university guests that do not qualify for a university parking permit. Parking in the visitor parking spaces as a student will result in a non-appealable citation.
Q: Why didn't I receive a warning before I was issued a parking citation?
A: Warnings are posted throughout the campus on the signs that read "Permit Permit Enforced", "Visitor Parking Only. No student, faculty, or staff allowed.", "Authorized State vehicles only", etc. In addition, the Parking Rules and Regulations may be located on our webpage.
Q: Can I receive a temporary parking permit from Parking and Transportation to park in a disabled parking space?
A: No. We suggest you speak with a medical professional regarding your request. If they feel your condition warrants a temporary parking permit, you will receive paperwork that must be submitted to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles office, where you will receive a red temporary handicap placard.
Q: Why do I have to pay for parking?
A: There are limits on the university that restrict the use of state or tuition revenues to build, maintain, or operate parking operations on campus. By state and university policy, Parking & Transportation must operate as an auxiliary enterprise and all bond indebtedness, maintenance, administration, utilities, and insurance must be paid for with user fees. The primary source of revenue is parking permit sales.
Q: If I remove my parking permit, does that mean I can park in the visitor parking area?
A: No, only those who do not qualify for parking permits (official guests of the university or visitors) can park in the visitor parking areas.
Q: Where does the parking permit go on my vehicle?
A: Your parking permit hangtag should be displayed from your rearview mirror. The Parking and Transportation office offers parking permit sleeves to anyone who cannot properly display their permit free of charge.
Q: I lost my parking permit, what can I do?
A: Replacement parking permits are $10.00. After you purchase a replacement permit, the lost permit will become void and unusable. Using a voided parking permit is a non-appealable $300.00 fine.
Q: I’m an online student and need to visit the campus only for one day out of the semester, can I park in visitor parking?
A: No, visitor parking is only for guests and not students of any kind, even online. As a registered student, you are still required to purchase a parking permit, regardless of the amount of times you visit campus.
Q: Can I appeal my citation in person?
A: You may only appeal a citation you received using the online appeals process through your Jaguar FlexPort account. Parking & Transportation requires proper record and documentation for why a citation was appealed.
Q: Where do I go to pay for my citation?
A: If you received a citation before January 1, 2021, you may pay your parking citation online through the JagWire portal or in-person at Student Business Services located in Madla 135.If you received a citation after January 1, 2021, you may pay your parking citation through your Jaguar FlexPort account.
Q: Why was my vehicle booted?
A: In accordance with the 34.99.99.00.01 Parking Fee, Registration of Vehicles and Permits, Section 9, pg14, the university has the ability to immobilize or impound a vehicle of any person for any of the following:Has accumulated four (4) or more unpaid parking or traffic violationsHas citation fines of $200 or moreHas any outstanding citations over 120 days past dueIs in possession of a lost, stolen, or altered/fraudulent parking permit.
Q: Who requires a parking permit to park on campus?
A: The following are required:
Students: special students, online-only students, student teachers, part-time students, auditing individuals, teaching assistant students, graders and research assistants)
Faculty: Any individual whose contract has been processed through the Office of the Provost and who are assigned a full time or part-time faculty position with the University. This shall exclude all individuals employed undergraduate study status.
Staff: Any employee who is employed for twelve (12) month period at forty hours a week. This shall exclude individuals employed under temporary, student worker, part-time, or work-study status.
Contracted employees: Any person employed by a business, but not affiliated with Texas A&M University-San Antonio as faculty, staff or student, which has contracted to operate a business or service function of the University. These included but are not limited to food services, bookstore services, custodial services, or facility services.
