With another amazing semester at an end, our faculty and staff are looking forward to tonight's commencement ceremony as nearly 600 graduates, many of whom are the first in their families to earn a college degree, will create the memory of a lifetime as they cross the stage. We are also excited to share other selected highlights on the achievements of our students, faculty and staff.

The cycle of teacher education brought home
An entire class of fourth graders had the chance to see one of their teachers recognized at her alma mater on Thursday, May 16. Texas A&M University-San Antonio honored Rachel McDonald '12, the first graduate of the University's "Ready From Day One" teacher preparation program to be hired by the district in which she trained. McDonald is a fourth grade teacher at Inez Foster Elementary School in the San Antonio Independent School District, and is about to complete her first semester as a full-time teacher. Her students and that of her two fourth-grade colleagues (including another TAMU-SA grad!) were treated to a campus tour and had a priceless chance to see firsthand the value of higher education. Watch the KENS-5 coverage here.
Spring Commencement Tonight
The Spring 2013 Commencement Ceremony is this evening at Freeman Coliseum. We are expecting nearly 600 graduates and a full audience of proud parents, brothers, sisters, and children. John Sharp, the chancellor of our distinguished Texas A&M University System, will deliver the commencement address. We are also proud to announce a special ceremony that brings great honor to Texas A&M-San Antonio: the bestowal of our second honorary Doctor of Letters degree on international philanthropist Alonso Ancira, chairman of AHMSA and founder of the Mexicans and Americans Thinking Together Foundation (MATT.org). Through his dedication and commitment to the cause of education, Mr. Ancira started the Alonso Ancira Scholarship Program to aid both American and Mexican student scholars. Join the faculty and staff of Texas A&M-San Antonio in congratulating the Spring Graduating Class of 2013!
