Law & Order: TAMU-SA Style
Dr. Claire Nolasco, assistant professor in the College of Arts & Sciences, is the lead author of a new article in the prominent Springer journal “Crime, Law, and Social Change.” The article is titled “Revisiting the choice model of Ponzi and Pyramid schemes: analysis of case law.” She also presented her research at a conference on Freedom of the Press and Media Law at the University of Montenegro in May.

The San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists has awarded scholarships to two of our Communications students, Lucia Espino and Alma Linda Manzanarez, who will be transferring to TAMU-SA this fall to continue studying journalism. Each year, the SAAHJ awards scholarships to deserving students committed to pursuing careers in the communications industry, such as broadcasting or print media, advertising, public relations, photojournalism, visual arts, and multimedia. Lucia and Alma are being recognized at the 15th Annual SAAHJ Scholarship & Awards Gala on Friday, July 19 at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio.
Not your usual Olympic game
The TAMU-SA Cyber Security Athenaeum team is one of 10 teams competing to represent North America at the final round of the 2013 Global CyberLympics, an international online cyber security competition designed to test the skills of information assurance professionals. Out of nearly 200 teams who competed in round 1 for North America, the TAMU-SA team was part of the top ten to advance to the next round. The TAMU-SA team, comprised of Zach Havins, Robert Bailey, Jon Garza, Harsh Oza, Ricky Banda, and Ashton Giddings, tied for third place in the first round. They will compete remotely in Round 2 on Monday, July 22. Go get 'em, gamers!
The academic power of email
Dr. Hsiao-Ping Wu, assistant professor in the College of Education & Kinesiology, visited Taiwan this summer to present the fascinating results of a pilot study for pre-service teachers studying the acquisition of a second language. For two months in the spring 2013 semester, students in EDBL 3115 studying how people acquire a second language and literacy development implemented teaching techniques through the use of technology by working with students who are learning English in Taiwan.
