A&M-SA alumna helps refugee children through local soccer club

Deidra Hagdorn, a graduate of Cohort 3 in the College of Education & Kinesiology, saw a need to help young refugees in her school district who are trying to start a new life with their families in San Antonio. She realized that her students, who come from countries such as Iran, Kenya and Nepal, share a love of soccer, so to keep them focused and out of trouble, she began the SA International Club earlier this year, gathering donations and utilizing her teaching skills to truly make an impact. Texas A&M San Antonio Foundation presents record amount for scholarships

In an effort to support university enrollment and student success the Texas A&M San Antonio Foundation awarded the University a record amount of $160,000 to be used for student scholarships. In addition to soliciting corporate and individual scholarship support, the Foundation directly contributes to the University for each academic year as a result of their individual Fundraising efforts. To date the Texas A&M San Antonio Foundation has awarded the University over a half million dollars in direct scholarship support.
