The Texas A&M San Antonio Foundation proudly held its fifth annual scholarship luncheon today, October 7. The luncheon is the major source of raising scholarship support for students of Texas A&M University-San Antonio. The Foundation honored legendary coach and former Texas A&M University System Regent Gene Stallings with the Dream Maker Award.
A member of the Texas A&M System Board of Regents since 2005 and a distinguished alumnus of Texas A&M University, Stallings coached professional football for 18 years, helping the Dallas Cowboys win Super Bowl XII. He has been inducted into numerous halls of fame, most recently the College Hall of Fame in 2011. Stallings is also a published author and received an honorary doctorate degree from Harding University.
The Dream Maker Award, established in 2009, honors community members for their significant contributions to education and in making the dream of a higher degree possible for thousands. Past honorees include Texas Secretary of State John and Ida “Weisie” Steen and Peggy and Dan Allen Hughes, Jr. in 2013; Peter Holt in 2012; Dr. Carl F. Raba in 2011; and Lowry Mays in 2010.
