SXSW EDU: Learn how to be a student-centered organization

March 3, 2020, Austin, Texas – The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and Texas A&M University-San Antonio invite SXSW EDU participants to join TAMU-SA President Cynthia Teniente-Matson and THECB Assistant Commissioner for College and Career Readiness Jerel Booker for a conversation on how to be a student-centered organization. The SXSW EDU “campfire” session is scheduled on March 10 from 2-3 p.m. at the Hilton Austin Downtown in Salon A.

What does it mean to center the student experience and set all students up for completion and a successful future?

 “Leaders in higher education must get beyond the buzzwords and truly be students-first institutions, where we  prepare future leaders for academic and career success by initiating high-impact practices, providing opportunities for experiential learning and community engagement, and implementing strong leadership development programs,” said Dr. Teniente-Matson.

The interactive session will highlight how Texas higher education professionals are working to shift policies, practice and culture to ensure student success.

“Institutions of higher education must be prepared for all students, and to get there, we need leaders to understand and center the needs of their students. Shifting to this mindset isn’t always easy, but it is critical to ensure the success of today’s students,” said Dr. Booker.
