The passing of Justice Ginsburg

Dear A&M-San Antonio Community,

The passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a significant moment for us to pause and recognize a lifetime of unwavering support for gender equality. For so many, Justice Ginsburg served as a role model with authenticity, determination, and tenacity. She had an impact on some of our nation’s most ground-breaking cases including monumental decisions about health care, marriage, voting and gender-based discrimination.

Personally, I have been inspired by her courage and grace that were evident throughout both her remarkable professional and personal life and as a wife and mother.  She embraced humor throughout her extraordinary journey, which transcended our American culture. As we continue to realize the impact of the passing of Justice Ginsburg, I am heartened by the confidence that we will find fitting ways to honor her legacy. This weekend, in addition to President Trump's order and that of the Governor to lower the US and state of Texas flags, respectively, I have ordered our A&M-San Antonio flag to be lowered to half-staff. The flags will remain lowered until sundown on the date of Justice Bader Ginsburg’s interment.
