Apply SAN ANTONIO – The global human trafficking crisis will be the topic of a conference hosted by Texas A&M University-San Antonio Saturday, Jan. 23. The university’s annual conference will bring together anti-trafficking and law enforcement experts and survivors to discuss the dangers of trafficking, internet safety, child pornography, sugar babies, and dorm and campus safety. The 2021 keynote speaker is Cyntoia Long-Brown, international author, speaker, advocate for criminal justice reform and victims of trafficking.
Every year, millions of adults and children are trafficked worldwide including the United State, according to Homeland Security. It can happen in any community and victims can be any age, race, gender, or nationality. Traffickers might use violence, manipulation, or false promises of well-paying jobs or romantic relationships to lure victims into trafficking situations.
A panel of experts from Homeland Security and Youth Alternatives will share their knowledge and experience in human trafficking dangers and the effects of human trafficking on the community. Conference participants will learn safety and defense techniques, learn to spot signs of trafficking online and in real-life, and engage in discussions during breakout sessions. The conference is organized by A&M-San Antonio’s Mays Center for Experiential Learning.
The conference will take place virtually and in-person. The event is open to the public.
