Apply SAN ANTONIO – Former SBC/ATT&T regional manager Alexander Travieso was recently appointed chair of the Texas A&M-San Antonio Foundation Board of Directors during the foundation’s annual board meeting. Travieso, who has served on the foundation since 2016, has led a number of philanthropic activities for the board including the annual Dream Makers scholarship initiative.
He succeeds Danny Zimmermann, who served as chair since 2018. During Zimmermann’s tenure as chair, the A&M-San Antonio Foundation set several records in raising funds for scholarships. Zimmermann is principal and co-founder of San Antonio-based Cleary Zimmermann Engineers.
“A&M-San Antonio is fortunate to have the expertise and support of so many outstanding business leaders and community volunteers,” said Cynthia Teniente-Matson, president of A&M-San Antonio. “When I think of his contributions over the past six years and during his time as chair of the A&M-San Antonio Foundation, Danny has always led with putting our students first. We have benefitted from his leadership in connecting the university to a network of supporters while serving as true ambassador and friend.”
“I have enjoyed my time as chair of the A&M-San Antonio Foundation and the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of our students,” said Zimmermann. “I consider my time on the board as true gift and am deeply appreciative of the experience and friendships I gained.”
Incoming chair Travieso outlined his goals as chair of the foundation and his thoughts on why supporting the Texas A&M University-San Antonio Foundation is important.
“I am honored to serve as chair of the A&M-San Antonio Foundation and to build upon the work of my predecessors in supporting the university’s mission and students as they pursue their academic dreams,” said Travieso.
Travieso’s corporate leadership experience and academic fundraising expertise, including positions with Texas State University and Kids Sports Network, will extend the foundation’s efforts to support A&M-San Antonio’s institutional and fund-raising priorities to increase access to quality higher education. Travieso has held several community and volunteer board positions including Avance, Project SER, United Way, San Antonio & El Paso Girl Scouts, and the Hispanic Policy Network. Travieso has a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas State University.
Founded in 2008, the A&M-San Antonio Foundation is focused on philanthropic support to bolster A&M-San Antonio’s scholarships and other institutional priorities.
