University Earns Prestigious Business Accreditation

AACSB AccreditedLess than 6% of the world’s schools hold AACSB accreditation

SAN ANTONIO — Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) has earned accreditation for its College of Business by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. Less than 6% of the world's schools offering business degree programs hold AACSB business accreditation.

“The College of Business is delighted to receive AACSB accreditation,” said Dr. Rohan Christie-David, College of Business dean. “This has been a team effort and my thanks go to Dr. Amy Lewis, Amaury Nora, and so many others too numerous to name that made this outcome possible. We also thank former President Dr. Matson and former Provost Dr. O’Brien for their unwavering support in this endeavor. The current administration, Interim President Dr. Linda Schott and Provost Dr. Abdelrahman, continue to support our efforts. Such a recognition will be of immense benefit to our students by providing a high-value education at an affordable cost and help the College of Business to further recruit talented faculty.”

Founded in 1916, AACSB is the longest-serving global accrediting body for business schools, and the largest business education network connecting learners, educators and businesses worldwide. A total of 965 institutions across 60 countries and territories have earned AACSB accreditation in business, and 193 institutions maintain supplemental AACSB accreditation for accounting programs.

“Texas A&M University-San Antonio’s commitment to earning accreditation is a true reflection of their dedication—not only to their students, alumni network and greater business community, but to the higher education industry as a whole,” said Stephanie M. Bryant, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB. “Today’s students are tomorrow’s business leaders, and the addition of the College of Business to the network of AACSB-accredited business schools will have a lasting positive impact for their institution, both locally and globally.”

AACSB accreditation ensures continuous improvement and provides focus for schools to deliver on their mission, innovate and drive impact. AACSB-accredited schools have successfully undergone a rigorous review process conducted by peers in the business education community, ensuring that they have the resources, credentials and commitment needed to provide students with a first-rate, future-focused business education. AACSB accreditation involves an internal focus, engagement with an AACSB-assigned mentor and peer-reviewed evaluation. During this multiyear process, schools focus on developing and implementing a plan to align with AACSB’s accreditation standards, which require excellence in areas relating to strategic management and innovation; student, faculty, and staff as active participants; learning and teaching; and academic and professional engagement.

With the AACSB accreditation, A&M-SA’s College of Business will develop and implement new, state-of-the-art undergraduate and graduate degree programs as well as maintain and increase resources for students. The College of Business currently offers bachelor’s degrees in accounting, computer information systems, finance, management and marketing. Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Professional Accounting (MPA) programs are also available, including a new 11-month MBA. The MBA program provides an unparalleled education with innovative content that culminates in a trip abroad and competitive/paid internships available to offset tuition. Three fully online MBA pathways are also offered.

“The AACSB accreditation reflects the quality of our faculty and programs in the College of Business and our commitment to excellence as we prepare students for successful and impactful careers,” said Dr. Mohamed Abdelrahman, A&M-SA provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs. “I am proud of our faculty, staff and leaders who worked tirelessly towards achieving this significant milestone. It is another step forward along the road of distinction for Texas A&M-San Antonio.”
