Comprehensive Exam

As part of your graduate counseling program, students need to pass the comprehensive counseling exam.

This exam should be scheduled after all core courses are completed.

Students may sign up in the counseling office no later than two weeks prior to administration of the exam. 

The exam is administered on the 2nd Saturday of February, June, and September. Details about the room location and any specifications for the exam will be emailed to those who have registered.

This exam is comprehensive in nature and covers core coursework.

  3. Human Development Across the Lifespan

  4. Counseling Diverse Populations

  5. Abnormal Human Behavior

  6. Ethics

  7. Assessment

  8. Career Counseling

  9. Group Techniques

  10. School Counseling (specific for those on school counseling degree plan)

**For those students on the Marriage and Family Counseling degree plan, core also includes marriage and family theories and techniques.

Those students who do not successfully meet the minimum score will be required to remediate and retest.

The sealed exam results will be available within one week after the exam date in counseling office. Student must show picture ID to front desk staff.

Special accommodations are available for the exam  thru the DSS office. Student requiring accommodations must be registered with university DSS office.
