Things to Know

  • Graduation is the process of being awarded a degree.
  • Commencement and the ceremonies are the services held at the end of each fall and spring semesters. (There is no summer commencement ceremony.) These are ceremonies in which the achievement of the degree is recognized and celebrated by the University community, and the students' families and friends. Participating in the Commencement ceremony does not infer students will graduate, as all degree requirements need to be met at the end of the semester the student applies to graduate under.
  • Students are required to wear the official University regalia (Gown, cap, and hood if applicable)
  • Only University-affiliated organizations stoles and/or cords may be worn at the commencement ceremonies.
  • Gowns are not to be decorated and/or redesigned, at all.
  • Decorations on caps (only on mortar board/top of cap) are permitted as long as decorations do not exceed the border of the cap and are in good taste.
  • There is no commencement ceremony rehearsal/practice.
  • A commencement ceremony email will be sent to student email addresses a month prior to the ceremony date and another will go out the month of the ceremony.
  • Diplomas are not handed out at the ceremonies, and take 8-10 business weeks from the end of the semester as stated on the academic calendar to be mailed out. E-diplomas will be available once a diploma order has been placed with Parchment, and an email from Parchment will go out once placed and available.
  • Degrees will be posted on official transcripts 2-3 business weeks after the end of the semester as stated on the academic calendar.
