Students who are not college ready according to the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) in all areas will be required to participate in developmental courses, co-requisite courses, and/or none credit based course options. Each student will be tracked and monitored for compliance.
Students are required to follow the terms of their TSI Agreement, which states students have three (3) regular 16 week semesters to become college ready or they will be placed on Developmental Suspension and unable to register for future courses.
If you have questions about your TSI Agreement, your TSI Status, or which part of the TSI Assessment you need to take, please contact the Testing Center at 210-784-1366 or TSI@tamusa.edu.
TSI Hold Information
All students who are admitted to the university will have a TSI Hold on their account. Students who are exempt from the TSI will have their records updated and the TSI Hold removed, please click here to see if you qualify for an exemption. If you feel you qualify for one of these exemptions, please contact the Testing Center.
TSI Holds will not be removed unless a student is exempt from or has passed all areas of the TSI Assessment. However, the TSI hold will be lifted once all requirements have been met to allow students to register. All incoming students who are not exempt in ALL areas of the TSI; Math, Reading & Writing (ELAR), must have TSI Assessment scores on file in all areas in order to register for New Student Orientation and courses.
TSI Agreement
The TSI Agreement is a contract between the TSI Office and a student who has not met college readiness standards in one or more areas. The agreement includes information regarding:
- Student responsibilities
- Course options and/or interventions
- TSI suspension guidelines
If a student does not have a TSI Agreement on file, they will receive an email asking for the form to be submitted electronically. Students will be unable to register for their next semester until they have completed the required TSI Agreement.
Developmental Education
Texas A&M University-San Antonio currently offers a MATH 1314 and ENGL 1301 co-requisite course options.
Students who have not passed one or more areas of the TSI Assessment are required to enroll in a co-requisite course in the area they are TSI not met.
Students can also enroll in developmental courses or college level courses at another institution, but must provide proof of enrollment before the TSI hold will be lifted. Please note, developmental education courses do not transfer and do not count towards your degree, but can be considered when determining TSI status.
