Testing Center - TSI Frequently Asked Questions

1.  I have a TSI Hold.  What do I do? 

Please contact the TSI Coordinator for more information on your TSI Hold (210) 784-1366 or tsi@tamusa.edu.

2.  I am required to take the TSI Assessment 2.0 if I have already taken the TSI Assessment?

As long as you have taken the TSI Assessment within the last 5 years you are not required to take the TSI Assessment 2.0.  All students have the option of retaking the TSIA at anytime.

3.  What is TSI?

The Texas Success Initiative, also known as TSI, is a law that requires all entering college students to be assessed for college readiness in math, reading and writing (ELAR), unless the student qualifies for an exemption or demonstrates college readiness through successful completion of college-level coursework.

4.  What if I am TSI complete from another institution?

You will need to provide an official transcript from that institution.

5.  Is TSI an admissions requirement?

The TSI is not an admission requirement, however, all new students are required to either take the TSI Assessment or provide proper TSI documentation to the university.

6.  When should I take the TSI Assessment?

You will need to test before you can sign up for classes.

8.  What happens if I don’t place into college-level course?

There are several options available for students that don't meet the TSI minimum standards.  Please contact the TSI Coordinator at 210-784-1366 or TSI@tamusa.edu 

9.  How much is the TSI Assessment?

The TSI Assessment is $18 per section or $35 for all sections for students testing at the A&M-SA. For students requiring remote testing the fee for the Remote TSI Voucher is $15 for all sections and $10.00 for 1 section.  There is an additional fee that will be paid to remote testing site.

10.  Can I retake the TSI Assessment?

Yes. You can retake the TSI Assessment as often as you want, the only restriction is you are unable to take the TSI Assessment twice in one day.

11.  When and where is the TSI Assessment offered?

The A&M-SA Testing Center offers the TSI Assessment by appointment or as a walk-in, on a first-come first-serve, as space becomes available. Please contact the Testing Center at (210) 784-1366 for available testing dates and times.  The exam can also be provided remotely for students living outside of the local area or those that wish to take the exam at home.

12.  When will I receive my scores?

Scores are available upon completion of the TSI Assessment and students will be provided a copy of their score report. Students can speak with the TSI Coordinator for assistance with interpreting their TSI Assessment scores and provide students with their next steps.

13.  I’ve already taken the TSI Assessment. How do I get my scores to you?

Please complete the online Score Report Request Form or you can Share Your Scores directly through ACCUPLACER. Your scores will be retrieved within 5 to 7 business days and entered into your educational record.

14.  I’m ready to take the TSI Assessment. What now?

Complete the steps provided on the TSI page of the Testing Center website, prior to testing examinees must complete the Pre-Assessment Activity.  You will need to register for the Practice App and complete the PAA.  The certificate of completion must be emailed to the Testing Center atTesting.Center@tamusa.edu.
