The Works of Joe R. Villarreal
Joe R. Villarreal (American, b. 1953)
Jacks
Oil on canvas
Signed, dated ‘2001’ and copyrighted l.r.
40 x 60 inches
Little girls playing jacks was a common past time while the artist was growing up in the early 1960’s. Here his sisters are playing and he is fascinated by his oldest sister’s quickness. The three played (no boys allowed) followed by a little break to the corner store buying a bag full of candy and bubble gum for a nickel.
In the painting, there is a penny left unnoticed by the girls.
Artist Challenge: Can you find the penny?
