About Us
Mission & Vision
The Esports program provides an inclusive and supportive community that strives to represent TAMUSA at the highest standard through competition and service. With dedicated staff and facilities we hope to uphold the university's educational values, while encouraging personal and academic growth of student gamers. It is our vision to develop esports as a positive force in San Antonio with TAMUSA Esports as the foundation.
Divisions
The Esports program is run by our Head Coach in collaboration with the Athletics department and Recreational Sports; these areas within Esports are:
Varsity Teams
- Founded in 2019, we currently have 7 varsity esports teams: Overwatch, Valorant, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Call of Duty, Chess, iRacing and League. Across these 7 teams, we currently have about 50 student-athletes that actively compete.
Academy
- Academy teams are students who are aspiring to varsity play. Academy teams may be a secondary roster for a varsity team or a club program that is promoted to academy. If they do not gain access to scholarships, they will receive moderate support from the Esports Program.
Clubs
- The Esports Club is currently in the early stages of creation, and it will be entirely student run, but the Esports Program does support its efforts. As a game title develops in the Esports Club, it will have opportunities to be upgraded to academy or varsity standing under the Esports Program.
Events
- Esports hosts various gaming events on campus for the rest of the student body to get involved with the program. Some events include online/in-person tournaments, Esports Combine, Women in Esports, etc.
Content Crew
- Used to promote the different areas of Esports and engage with the campus community.
