Goals
Goal 1: Student Engagement
Chair: Dr. Reba Sims
The Division of Student Affairs will inspire students to discover meaningful connections through engagement in campus resources, programs, events, traditions, student organizations, and services to enhance their collegiate experience and strengthen their university affinity.
- Objective 1 - Campus Resource Engagement: 80% of students will use at least three (3) on campus resources by graduation.
- Objective 2 - Campus Engagement: 80% of Students will participate in three (3) to five (5) university programs, campus events, or student organizations by graduation
- Objective 3 - Tradition Engagement: 80% of students will engage in at least five (5) university traditions by graduation.
Goal 2: Career Readiness
Co-Chairs: Karen Ivy and Krystina Irvin
The Division of Student Affairs will connect students to the career aspirations and interests through student employment, professional development, and high impact practices.
- Objective 1 - Career Readiness Engagement: Increase knowledge of career competencies for students and supervisors to set goals and track growth of career readiness skills for a professional work environment.
- Objective 2 - Meaningful Reflection Engagement: Incorporate structured opportunities for students and supervisors to reflect on their learning and connections between work and school.
- Objective 3 - Professional Development Engagement: Increase accessibility of training and professional development programs for as all students with any employer, focusing on division student employees.
- Objective 4 - Student Employment Engagement: Student employment as a high impact practice will increase the retention and graduation rates for students that are employed on campus.
Goal 3: Leadership/Mentorship
Chair: Reed Vesey
The Division of Student Affairs will be the centralized model for mentorship and leadership programs by creating and guiding campus-wide initiatives.
- Objective 1 - Leadership Conference Engagement: In three (3) years, increase student participation in the Cisneros Student Leadership Conference by 30%. In five (5) years, open the conference up to local collegiate attendance.
- Objective 2 - Strengths Championing Engagement: In five (5) years, certify 100 Strengths Champions. Strengths Champions can be faculty, staff, and students, and student employees. In order to be sustainable, Student Success and Engagement will create its own Campus Champion curriculum by spring 2023.
- Objective 3 - Strengthening Mentoring Engagement: In five (5) years, 30% of mentorship program participants will have taken their Clifton Strengths assessment and participate in a Strengths introductory group session. By year three (3), introduce sponsored student organization members to the overall goal.
- Objective 4 - Reflection Engagement: Student Success and Engagement Departments hosting Leadership or Mentorship programs will host a reflection activity. Reflections will focus on "closing the loop" of the program; specifically, to learn how they can implement their experience on a resume or in their pathway to success. By 2024, 50% of the programs will have hosted a reflection. By 2024, 75% of the program participants will have participated in a reflection.
- Objective 5 - Leadership Opportunity Engagement: Increase student participation in A&M-SA sponsored leadership opportunities (on or off-campus) by 30% by 2025.
Goal 4: Retention/Graduation
Chair: Gretchen Doenges
The Division of Student Affairs will expand efforts to reduce the time to degree completion by implementing purposeful retention and graduation initiatives.
- Objective 1 - Milestone Engagement: Celebrate students becoming sophomores, juniors, and seniors by engaging them in two campus wide events for each classification by spring 2025
- Objective 2 - Classification Checklist Engagement: Implement an interactive classification check list webpage for each classification; first-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors by fall 202
- Objective 3 - Family Support Engagement: Support student parents by offering event specific child watch during two (2) leadership or development opportunities each semester by fall 2024
- Objective 4 - Registration Engagement: Coordinate an at-risk student call campaign at priority registration each fall and spring semester by spring 2022
- Objective 5 - Class Registration Engagement: Collaborate to host two class registration informational events each fall and spring semester during priority registration and right before the semester starts by 2023
