First-Year Seminar Meet the Peer Leader

Program Goals

Students participating in the PROWL program will 

  • Have access to a Peer Leader who will transition them into a career pathway through a connection to experiential learning opportunities;
  • Increase their wellness through connections to campus resources;
  • Create community and build relationships through social experiences on and off campus;
  • Be assisted in finishing out the first year and enrolling for their second year at the institution;
  • Learn to advocate for themselves to cultivate academic, professional, and personal growth.
  • Applying for the PROWL Pathway Scholarship? Here is the recommendation form to provide to your recommender. Instead of a letter of recommendation, we ask that they submit this form.

The Peer Leaders will support their students in making further connections on campus that align with their career goals. They will be connected to:

  • Internships
  • Career Advisor Appointments
  • Student Organizations
  • Leadership Opportunities
  • Faculty-led Research Projects

  • Experiential Learning
  • Study Abroad Course
  • Faculty and Staff Mentorship

First-Year Cording Ceremony

At the end of the academic year, the Office of First-Year Experience will host a First-Year Cording Ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of first-year students and their involvement in PROWL. Students will be able to receive the following recognitions.

  • Students who earn a C or higher for First-Year Seminar and connected with a Peer Leader (at minimum) two out of the four PROWL activities, will be awarded a graduation cord and certificate.
  • A campus wide request will be sent out to nominate students for first-year awards.

 

 

First-Year Cording Ceremony

PROWL Pathway Scholarship

The Office of First-Year Experience has created a scholarship fund to award students who have been actively part of PROWL and demonstrated growth in their first-year A&M-SA. This is a self-nominated scholarship; however, successful nominees must meet the scholarship requirements. There will be a total of 10, one-time $500 scholarships awarded to qualifying nominees in Fall 2024.

  • Requirements
    • Earn a C or higher for First-Year Seminar in the Fall of 2023
    • 2.5 GPA or higher
    • Connected with Peer Leader (at minimum) two out of the four PROWL activities
    • Demonstrated personal growth during their first year at A&M-SA
    • Submit a recommendation form from a Faculty, Staff, or Peer Leader
  • Scholarships will be based on attendance and growth in student’s first-year
  • Applications will open in April 2024.
