College credit for heroes

Recognizing the need to help more student veterans earn their degrees, Texas A&M-San Antonio joins the entire Texas A&M System in adopting "College Credit for Heroes," created by the Texas Workforce Commission. The statewide program aims to maximize the award of college credits to service members and veterans for their military training.

"Aligning our institutions with College Credit for Heroes demonstrates our commitment to keeping our military and veterans on track to achieve academic and career success," said Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp. New archival collection opens

The University Library welcomed the Archives and Special Collections unit, which contains a growing number of archival and newspaper collections such as records of the University with other rare collections of historical value relevant to academic programs at TAMU-SA. Among the works being housed are the La Prensa archives and the Robert H. Thonhoff Collection. The library celebrated the unit's launch with a warm reception on Thursday, October 10 at the University's Library.

Empowering women in IT

Dr. Barbara Hewitt, assistant professor of Computer Information Systems, is chair of the SA Women in IT organization, which promotes aspiring women in the Information Technology field. Hewitt and their chapter play a pivotal role in addressing the shortage of young females in computing by promoting scholarship opportunities for young women. Director's article opens critical discussion

Director of Water Conservation and Technology Center for the Texas A&M University System Calvin Finch wrote an article describing how Proposition 6 proposes the creation of a $2 billion revolving fund that can provide loans to water purveyors and local governments to help finance water projects.
 
The University invites the community to join Finch along with State Sen. Carlos Uresti, State Representative Lyle Larson (invited) and former State Representative and current CEO of the San Antonio Water System Robert Puente, and for "Proposition 6: A Public Conversation." The event will take place October 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Educational and Cultural Arts Center.
