SAN ANTONIO — Over 730 candidates for graduation from Texas A&M University-San Antonio will cross the stage at the Spring Commencement Ceremony at 4 p.m. at the Freeman Coliseum on Friday, May 16. The graduating class will celebrate the milestone of becoming the University’s largest ceremony ever, another symbol of A&M-San Antonio’s unprecedented growth. Since achieving stand-alone status exactly five years ago in May 2009, the University has grown 216%.

This ceremony will also see the first graduates receiving a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, which prepares students for today’s expanding role of information assurance.

“We are very enthusiastic about our first computer science graduates, whose program is designed to prepare students to be productive technical IT professionals,” said Dr. Brent Snow, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “These graduates are an example of how we have been able to respond to critical needs in San Antonio and the region, remaining true to our mission to enrich the economic development of our broader community.”

The Honorable Susan L. Pamerleau, Sheriff of Bexar County, will deliver the commencement address. Pamerleau was elected in November 2012, becoming the first woman to hold the post. The Texas A&M University System will be represented by Vice Chancellor for Marketing & Communications Steven M. Moore.

Texas A&M-San Antonio also takes pride in its commitment as a military embracing university with distinctive military honor cords for active duty military and veteran students, who will be draped with red, white and blue “Patriot” commencement cords for their contributions to the country. Students who have earned academic honors will also proudly wear honor cords to signify academic achievements or stoles representing involvement with honor societies.

Commencement begins at 4 p.m. at the Freeman Coliseum (3201 E. Houston St., San Antonio, TX 78219).
