Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson Elected President of Tricentennial Commission

December 15, 2017
Dear Members of the A&M-SA Community:

Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson was elected president of the San Antonio Tricentennial Commission today, following confirmation votes by the San Antonio City Council and the San Antonio Tricentennial Commission. Dr. Matson, who had been serving as a member of the Tricentennial Commission, was nominated last week by Mayor Ron Nirenberg to lead the commission.

The San Antonio Tricentennial is a year-long celebration honoring 300 years of the city's rich heritage and diverse culture. An estimated 700 organizations are expected to host some 500 events with the help of thousands of volunteers throughout the year, with a total economic impact on the city of more than $100 million. Dr. Matson will oversee the commission charged with leading the overall effort while managing a multimillion-dollar budget.

"I am humbled by the trust and confidence that Mayor Nirenberg, the City Council and the Tricentennial Commission have placed in me," says Dr. Matson. "San Antonio has a diverse and culturally rich history. I am confident that at the culmination of our Tricentennial year, we will look back at the city-wide education, cultural events, festivities and public projects and recognize they will have a positive impact for generations to come!"

Dr. Matson takes the helm of the commission as it prepares to kick off the Tricentennial celebration in two weeks. "The San Antonio Tricentennial Celebration is truly a historic milestone in our City's evolution, beginning with our New Year's Eve event and continuing throughout the year," she says. "I am committed to making sure that our community members and visitors alike will have myriad opportunities to experience what makes San Antonio such a unique place to live, work and play."

A&M-SA will play an active role in the SA300 Tricentennial next year, hosting more than half a dozen designated events. For A&M-SA events details, visit www.tamusa.edu/tricentennial/.
