A message of gratitude to Mrs. Peggy Pitman Mays, In memoriam

This week the Texas A&M University-San Antonio lost an advocate of education and a dear friend of the institution, Mrs. Peggy Pitman Mays. Three years ago, a $5 million gift from the Mays Family Foundation helped to establish the A&M-San Antonio Mays Center for Experiential Learning and Community Engagement, which every day enriches the lives of our students and our community.

Within the life of the university are individuals who have become an integral part of its history. Mrs. Mays and her husband, Lowry, have devoted their lives to the betterment of her community through her selfless acts of giving of her time and treasure.

Maya Angelou said, “One must know not just how to accept a gift, but with what grace to share it.” The beauty of the Mays Foundation gift bestowed on the University is its intergenerational and lasting impact on the lives and experiences of our students and alumni.
