Texas A&M University-San Antonio hosts fifth annual Lights of Esperanza 2020

Tradition will deliver a new twist to the family event – ‘Drive-in Edition’

SAN ANTONIO – Texas A&M University-San Antonio will host its annual community Lights of Esperanza “Drive-in Edition” 6-8:30 pm, Tuesday Dec. 1. This year, the event adds a twist to the tradition with a “Drive-in Edition” featuring a screening of the movie, “Elf”— in addition to its traditional holiday lighting of the campus and a fireworks. The event is designed to be safe and to follow the health and safety protocols including social distancing.

“This year, more than ever it’s important to continue our traditions; and to do so in ways that protect the health of our community,” said CynthiaTeniente-Matson, president of A&M-San Antonio. “Lights of Esperanza is a tradition that so many families in our community look forward to and that our campus community enjoys celebrating.”

The event also coincides with A&M-San Antonio’s inaugural “Giving Tuesday” focused on donations to support the General’s Store Food Pantry and scholarships. This year gifts will be split evenly between our General’s Store Food Pantry and student scholarships. The goal is to raise $5,000 between 9am and 5pm on December 1st.

Lights of Esperanza: Drive-in Edition will be held in Parking Lot 3 and those attending will remain in their cars while watching the film. Persons with disabilities needing accomodations may contact specialevents@tamusa.edu in advance.
