WHAT: In anticipation for the first-ever home varsity athletic contests in the history of Texas A&M University at San Antonio, the university is hosting General’s Growl, a pep rally to celebrate the inaugural season of A&M-San Antonio intercollegiate sports in Parking Lot 3 on the campus.
WHEN: General’s Growl - Feb. 11, 6 p.m.; Inaugural Softball Game – Feb. 12, 2 p.m.
BACKGROUND: The pep rally will be a drive-through event in Parking Lot 3, Thursday, Feb. 11, and will feature the softball and men’s golf teams, which made their debuts in road contests earlier in the week. The event will start at 6 p.m., with a media session set to begin at 5 p.m.
TAMUSA’s Director of Athletics Darnell Smith will be the master of ceremonies for the event. University president Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson will also speak at the event. The pep rally will conclude with a performance by the Jaguarettes dance team.
Thursday’s event will precede the softball team’s home opener scheduled for Friday, Feb. 12, at Harlandale ISD’s Tejeda Softball Complex. The softball games between A&M-San Antonio and McMurry University will be the first home varsity contest in school history.
