The annual event supports student scholarships at the University
SAN ANTONIO - Texas A&M University-San Antonio is hosting the 14th annual Dream Maker Scholarship and Award Ceremony to help make the educational goals of its students a reality.
Launched in 2010, Dream Maker supports scholarships at the University, where approximately 73 percent of the students are the first in their family to attend college. The prestigious event also recognizes an individual who has made an indelible impact on the education of students at A&M-San Antonio. This year’s honoree is George B. Hernández Jr., president and CEO of University Health, a nationally recognized academic health system and network of primary care, specialty, preventive and school-based health centers.
With a career spanning more than three decades in the healthcare industry, Hernández has long been dedicated to bridging the gap between quality healthcare and underserved communities. Under his guidance, University Health has become a beacon for comprehensive medical services throughout Bexar County, leading the way for patient-centered care.
Among his many accomplishments, Hernández recently helped spearhead a collaboration between University Health, A&M-San Antonio and Texas A&M Health to enhance the training of students as healthcare professionals. As a result of this landmark partnership, University Health will build a new hospital and an institute of public health along the University’s west entrance. In conjunction with this essential project, A&M-San Antonio is building a new public health education building on campus, providing public health graduate degrees and cutting-edge medical research opportunities.
“The Dream Maker event is one of the University’s most important initiatives and a wonderful opportunity to recognize George B. Hernández, who joins a prestigious group of honorees,” said Dr. Jesse Pisors, vice president for university relations and advancement. “His leadership and many contributions have done so much to help the University enhance higher education opportunities throughout San Antonio and beyond.”
