Early Childhood Program Highlights

  Baby Paw Project

The Baby Paws program connects early childhood pre-service professionals with South San Antonio ISD professionals and families.  At Baby Paws events, Texas A&M San Antonio Students learn how to assess young children’s development, plan interventions and play activities that will promote growth and development, and gain skills in interacting and speaking with families.  Families learn about their children; and, how to promote the child’s growth and development.  Finally, the district becomes familiar with pre-service teachers who may feed into their teacher pipeline.

Head Start Teachers
Monica White and Tracie Solis are early childhood teachers with San Antonio Independent School District teaching in Head Start classrooms.  They joined Texas A&M University-San Antonio as graduate students in 2016, enrolling as part of the Head Start Summer Institute.  The Summer Institute is sponsored for the City of San Antonio Head Start teachers who wish to develop expertise as a teacher of young children and collaborator with families.

Both award recipients are  currently pursuing an M Ed in Early Childhood. Their expertise as an early childhood professional was recognized this year as each was awarded the 2017 SAISD Teacher of the Year Award. Tracie Solis was recognized as Teacher of the Year at Knox Early Childhood Center and Monica White was recognized as Teacher of the Year for Carroll Early Childhood Center.

The faculty and staff of Texas A&M University-San Antonio wish to congratulate both of them on this outstanding accomplishment.
