Meet the Dean
Dr. Ting Liu assumed the role of Dean of Graduate Studies in September 2023. She is deeply committed to providing a transformative graduate education experience that equips our graduates for successful careers, responsible global citizenship, and a lifelong commitment to learning.
Dr. Liu brings a wealth of experience to her role as Dean. Her academic journey includes earning a Ph.D. in Kinesiology from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.S. in Exercise and Sports Studies from Boise State University, and a B.S. in Physical Education from Beijing Sport University. Dr. Liu’s research focuses on applied and translational research in children with autism spectrum disorder. Her dedication to this field led her to establish an autism summer program in 2010, providing vital support for children with autism in central Texas while offering hands-on service learning and research opportunities to students.
Before joining Texas A&M University-San Antonio, Dr. Liu dedicated 15 years to her career at Texas State University, where she held several influential roles. She served as an associate dean for research and sponsored programs in the College of Education, a professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance, and successfully managed positions as both the undergraduate program director and the graduate program director. Dr. Liu’s outstanding contributions have been widely recognized, earning her numerous prestigious awards, including the Texas State University System Regents’ Teacher award, Everette Swinney Faculty Senate Excellence in Teaching Award, the Presidential Award for Excellence in Scholarly/Creative Activities, and the national Lolas E. Halverson Motor Development and Learning Young Investigator Award.
Expressing her enthusiasm for her new role, Dr. Liu remarked, “I am excited about the opportunity to making a meaningful and positive impact at A&M-San Antonio. I want to get students engaged in our graduate programs and research experiences while expanding our graduate services to better serve their needs. By fostering stakeholder engagement and implementing effective recruitment strategies, we can successfully expand our graduate community.”
