The Presidential Medallion
The medallion also known as a chain of office, the practice of medallions awarded by a ruler has roots in Ancient Greece, continuing through the Middle Ages to develop into the modern-day tradition of wearing a medallion attached to a chain around the neck as a symbol of authority. The academic medallion of Texas A&M University- San Antonio features the University seal, representing the president’s responsibility to the education of each and every student at the University. The silver chain link is studded with silver roses that continue the garland of yellow roses of Texas on the seal.
